The garden area at our hotel in Venice

A sweet garden behind our hotel in Venice.

A wall in the garden that inspires me to do an abstract painting.

Any garden that has bamboo is a good garden.

Ground covering in the garden area.  Inspiration for a

                               mandala painting possibly.

A quiet Sunday morning close to our hotel.

This door passage was in the garden area also.  I'm intrigue with doors both open and closed.

Artists Take a Turn on the Path for Reflection

Waterfalls and lily pond

Artists Karen Benedetti and Rosie Huart delivered art work today for an upcoming art exhibit at Gallery St. John at Mount St. John/Bergamo in Dayton, Ohio, titled Gallery Artists & Friends.

The grounds at Bergamo were very inviting as Karen and Rosie veered off the gallery path and found a secluded grotto made of imported stone from France.  The whisperings of nature, with its trickling of waterfalls, a lily pond, and the singing of cardinals stilled their minds for a few moments as they sat and enveloped the calm and serenity...maybe gathering inspiration for their next paintings.

The exhibition is a group show with paintings, pottery, mosaics, prints, reliefs, photography and collages and will be open Wednesdays through Sundays beginning Septemer 16, 2009, to October 11, 2009, from 12-4 PM.  An artists' reception is Sunday, October 11, 2009, from 1-4 PM.  It is free and open to the public.

In the week long workshop at the 2009 Calligraphy Conference one of the exercises was to section a sheet of black Arches text wove into 6 different grids.  The paper was then enhanced with different marks by utilizing a variety of writing instruments.  It was made into a decorative box to hold our Book of Days.

A participant's sheet of Arches black text wove paper with grid is marked for Box of Days.

Connecting Art and Spirituality

A one day workshop in May on the beautiful grounds of TransfigurationCenter for Spiritual Renewal, Ludlow Falls, Ohio, was the gathering of artists, therapists and college minister.  The morning was spent doing stream of consciousness writing about a significant event in life and then followed with an exercise, whereby words were pulled from the story to create poetry. Painted watercolor paper was used to receive the creative words. Later in the morning time was spent doing meditation/drawing as an exercise in mindfulness.  After lunch we gathered to create a collage of our higher creative self with special materials.  We gathered in a circle to talk about the grace of the day.  Participants left feeling inspired, fulfilled and connected.

Creative writing exercise which later resulted into a poem on the artist's own watercolored handmade paper.

Rounded and squared sculpture on the property.  Which one do you prefer?

A beautiful lily pad pond on the premises.

Several artists from Ohio and Michigan gathered in Roseville, Michigan, for a weeklong workshop in May lead by renowned Louisville calligrapher and artist, Steven Skaggs.  Several exercises in the class connected the spirituality and art of each artist.
